Kenya is the only country in the world where a national park (Nairobi National Park) is directly adjacent to a capital, offering the possibility of seeing wild animals with the city’s skyline in the background.

The currency is the Kenyan Shilling (KES). International bank cards are accepted in major hotels, safari lodges, and some restaurants in town. However, it is essential to have cash (KES or sometimes USD for certain park fees) for small shops, local markets, and tips. Mobile payments via M-Pesa are very widespread locally.

The inhabitants are called Kenyans and Kenyana.

The official languages are Swahili and English. Numerous local dialects are also spoken. English is widely understood in tourist areas.
