Brazil - Feel the Heartbeat of Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, with its vibrant heart, is a city that embodies the joy of living with its golden beaches like Copacabana and Ipanema, its majestic mountains like Sugarloaf, and the iconic Corcovado statue overlooking the bay.

Between the rhythms of funk and samba echoing in the streets, the smell of meat and spices, and the sound of the waves, this city offers a unique experience.

My favorite

Watch the Sunset from Pedra do Arpoador

This rock located right at the junction of Rio’s two most iconic beaches (Ipanema and Copacabana) is the perfect spot to admire the sunset.

Every evening, many Brazilians and tourists gather here to witness this magical moment, which ends with a flurry of applause.

Visit the City of Paraty

This picturesque city with colonial architecture located 300 km from Rio, immerses you in a distinctive atmosphere. The narrow streets, white houses with colorful doors and windows provide a charm that you won't find elsewhere. From Paraty Bay, you can explore numerous paradisiacal beaches, waterfalls, and natural slides, as well as many Cachaça distilleries (the alcohol that is the basis of the famous "Caipirinha" cocktails).

See the Different Viewpoints of Rio

From Corcovado, the top of Sugarloaf Rock, or from the summit of Two Brothers Hill, you can admire views across all of Rio de Janeiro. You can see all the city's reliefs, hills, beaches, favelas, as well as the famous Maracanã Stadium from different viewpoints.

Take a Tour of the Lapa Neighbourhood

This colourful neighbourhood located in the historic centre of Rio is very lively and has many restaurants and bars. You can also find the famous mosaic stairs here.

My advice

Rio de Janeiro guarantees a total change of scenery. If you are a meat lover, I recommend dining at Fogo de Chao in Rio, where they serve the best Brazilian steaks in the city. If you’re a football fan, I suggest attending a match of the Flamengo or Fluminense clubs (guaranteed atmosphere at the Maracanã!)

To best prepare for your trip, I recommend brushing up on basic Portuguese vocabulary, as English is not widely spoken there.

Finally, if you wish to visit the city of Paraty like I did, I recommend staying at the Pousada Maris Paraty. This dream accommodation offers an excellent breakfast, and the staff is very friendly.
