Thai cuisine is one of the most appreciated in the world. The Pad Thai (stir-fried rice noodles) is the national dish. The Tom Yum Goong (spicy and sour shrimp soup), the Gaeng Keow Wan (green curry with coconut milk) and the Massaman Curry are must-tries. The spicy green papaya salad (Som Tum) is refreshing. The street food is everywhere and offers an endless variety of skewers, soups, and fried dishes. For dessert, don’t miss the mango sticky rice (sticky rice with mango and coconut milk).

Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia never to have been colonized by a European power. Its name means “Land of Free Men”.
The official currency is the Thai Baht (THB). It is preferable to pay in baht, especially for small shops and street food. Credit cards are accepted in large hotels, restaurants and shopping centres. ATMs are widespread, but often apply fixed fees for foreign cards.
The inhabitants of Thailand are called Thais and Thai women.
The official language is Thai. English is commonly spoken in tourist areas, but proficiency may be basic outside. Learning some basic Thai words (sawasdee: hello, khop khun: thank you) will be highly appreciated.
In Thailand, a wide variety of plugs are found, including types A, B, C, F and O. Most recent plugs are hybrid and accept both flat (type A) and round (type C) pins. However, for greater security, it is highly recommended to bring a universal adapter. The voltage is 220V and the frequency is 50Hz.
