The Bahamas archipelago is full of wonders. Nassau, the capital on the island of New Providence, offers a blend of colonial history (Queen’s Staircase, Fort Fincastle) and modernity with its shops and restaurants. Don’t miss Clifton Heritage National Park for its beaches and history. The Exumas are famous for Pig Beach (where you can swim with pigs), their underwater caves (Thunderball Grotto), and their idyllic sandbanks. Grand Bahama Island features national parks such as Lucayan National Park with its caves and mangroves. Harbour Island is renowned for its pink-sand beach, Pink Sands Beach. For diving enthusiasts, Andros has the third-largest barrier reef in the world.

The Bahamas enjoy a tropical maritime climate, characterized by warm temperatures year-round. The most pleasant period runs from November to April, with average temperatures ranging between 21°C and 27°C and low humidity. This is the peak tourist season. Summer, from May to October, is hotter and more humid, with temperatures that can reach 32°C. It is also the rainy season, with tropical showers that are often brief but intense, and the hurricane period (mainly from June to November).

Bahamian cuisine is a delicious blend of Caribbean and American flavors, with an abundance of fresh seafood. Conch (lambi) is the local star, prepared as fritters (conch fritters), in salad (conch salad), or grilled. Fresh fish, such as grouper or snapper, is often grilled or steamed with local spices. Cracked conch (breaded and fried conch) is also very popular. Also try peas ‘n’ rice (rice with pigeon peas), baked macaroni and cheese, and johnnycake (a kind of slightly sweet bread). For drinks, local rum and fruity cocktails like the Goombay Smash are musts.

The Bahamas are made up of around 700 islands and more than 2,000 cays (small sandy islands), but only about thirty of them are inhabited.
The official currency is the Bahamian dollar (BSD), which is pegged at parity with the US dollar (USD). The US dollar is accepted everywhere in the Bahamas. Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and tourist shops. It is advisable to have cash (USD or BSD) for small businesses, markets, and taxis. ATMs are available, mainly in Nassau and Freeport.
The inhabitants of the Bahamas are called Bahamians (men) and Bahamians (women).
The official language is English. The English spoken in the Bahamas has a distinct accent and local expressions, sometimes influenced by Creole.
In the Bahamas, electrical outlets are type A and B. The standard voltage is 120V and the frequency is 60Hz. You will need an adapter if your devices use different plugs (for example, European type C/E/F plugs). A transformer may also be necessary for devices that are not compatible with 120V voltage.
