What are the must-see places to visit in the United States?

The United States is full of iconic sites.

In New York, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, and the Empire State Building are must-sees.
In the American West, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming), and Yosemite (California) are natural wonders. California draws visitors with the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Hollywood, and the beaches of Los Angeles.
Washington D.C., the capital, is home to the Capitol, the White House, and many free museums.
New Orleans charms visitors with its French Quarter and its jazz vibe. Las Vegas fascinates with its excess in the middle of the desert. Finally, Florida offers the theme parks of Orlando and the beaches of Miami.

What is the climate like in the United States?

The climate is extremely varied due to the vast size of the country:

  • Northeast (New York, Boston): Hot and humid summers, cold and snowy winters.
  • Southeast (Florida, Louisiana): Subtropical climate, mild winters, hot, humid summers, and prone to hurricanes.
  • Midwest (Chicago): Continental climate with very cold winters and hot summers.
  • Southwest (Arizona, Nevada): Desert climate, very hot and dry in summer.
  • West Coast (California): Mediterranean climate in the south (Los Angeles) and more temperate and humid in the north (San Francisco).
The best time to visit depends entirely on the region you choose. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are often pleasant seasons for most destinations.

What to eat in the United States? Gastronomy in the United States

American cuisine is much more than fast food. It’s a mosaic of regional traditions. Try the authentic hamburger and hot dog, Texas or Carolina barbecue (BBQ), New England clam chowder (clam soup), Louisiana Cajun and Creole cooking (gumbo, jambalaya), and tex-mex cuisine in Texas. Weekend brunches are a true institution, with pancakes, Eggs Benedict, and waffles. The United States is also the land of cheesecakes, brownies, and donuts.

Practical tips for your trip to the United States

Contrary to popular belief, the United States has no official language at the federal level. While English is the de facto language, no law designates it as such.

The official currency is the US Dollar (USD, $). Paying by credit card is the near-universal norm. It is often difficult to pay cash for large amounts (hotels, car rentals). Having a credit card (not a debit card) is essential for many bookings. ATMs are very widespread.

The inhabitants of the United States are called Americans and American women.

The most widely spoken language is English. Spanish is the second most widely spoken language, especially in the southern and western states.

In the United States, plugs are type A and B. The standard voltage is 120V and the frequency is 60Hz. You will absolutely need an adapter. Also check whether your devices are compatible with 120V (dual voltage); otherwise, a transformer will be necessary.
