Peru’s climate is very diverse: desert on the coast (little rain), mild and dry in the Andes (dry season from May to October, rainy season from November to April), and humid tropical in the Amazon (heat and humidity year-round). The dry season in the Andes is the best time to visit Machu Picchu and go hiking.

Peruvian cuisine is one of the best in the world. Try Ceviche (raw fish marinated in lime juice), Lomo Saltado (stir-fried beef), Aji de Gallina (spicy creamy chicken), and Pisco Sour (the national cocktail). Potatoes and corn, native to the Andean region, are everywhere.
