The official currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN). Bank cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops in tourist areas. However, it is recommended to have cash for small purchases, local markets and in more remote areas. US dollars are sometimes accepted in very touristy areas, but the exchange rate may not be favourable.

The official language is Spanish. Many indigenous languages are also spoken throughout the country and have the status of national languages. In tourist areas, English is often understood, but a few words of Spanish will be greatly appreciated.
In Mexico, electrical outlets are type A and B (the same as in the United States). The standard voltage is 127V and the frequency is 60Hz. An adapter will be necessary if your devices have different plugs, and check whether your devices require a voltage converter.
