What is the ideal itinerary for a trip to Mexico?
The ideal program will depend on your desires, the duration of your stay, and your interests.
- For a week (Yucatán): Combine Caribbean beaches (Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum) with visits to Mayan sites (Chichén Itzá, Tulum) and the discovery of cenotes.
- For two weeks: Explore a region in greater depth such as the Yucatán and Chiapas, or combine Mexico City and its surroundings with colonial cities like Oaxaca or Guanajuato.

Common questions about a trip to Mexico
The official currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN). Bank cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and shops in tourist areas. However, it is recommended to have cash for small purchases, local markets, and in more remote areas. US dollars are sometimes accepted in very touristy areas, but the exchange rate may not be favourable.
The inhabitants of Mexico are called Mexicans.
The official language is Spanish. Many indigenous languages are also spoken throughout the country and have national language status. In tourist areas, English is often understood, but a few words in Spanish will be greatly appreciated.
