When to go to Barbados?
Barbados can be visited year-round thanks to its warm, sunny tropical climate, but the best time depends on your preferences: beaches and diving in the dry season, or lush nature and better rates in the rainy season.
December to April – Dry season, ideal for beaches
The high season coincides with the dry season. Sunshine is ever-present, rainfall is rare, and temperatures hover around 28-30°C. The waters along the west coast are particularly calm and clear, perfect for swimming, diving, and water sports.
May to November – Green season, reduced rates
The rainy season (June to November) brings tropical showers that are generally short and intense, followed by sunshine. The vegetation is lush, hotels offer attractive rates, and the island is less crowded. Barbados, located south of the hurricane belt, is relatively spared from major storms.

Barbados is considered the birthplace of rum. The Mount Gay distillery, founded in 1703, is the oldest commercial rum brand in the world still in operation. The island has been producing rum for more than 300 years—before the word “rum” itself even existed.
The official currency is the Barbadian Dollar (BBD), pegged at 2 BBD to 1 USD. The US dollar is widely accepted in tourist establishments. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger restaurants. It’s useful to have Barbadian dollars for markets, transport, and small shops.
The official language is English. Locals also speak a local dialect called Bajan, an English-based creole with distinctive charm. Communication is easy for any English-speaking traveler or anyone with a basic command of English.
In Barbados, the outlets are type A and B. The voltage is 115V at 50Hz. European travelers will need an adapter for type C/E/F plugs, and potentially a voltage converter for devices that aren’t compatible with 115V.
