Dubrovnik - Escape to the Adriatic Sea

Just two hours by plane, Dubrovnik is an absolute must-visit destination in Europe.

Located by the Adriatic Sea, you will discover stunning landscapes that change with the sea. For all diving or water sports enthusiasts, the water is sometimes clearer than the Caribbean Sea, offering incredible spots.

With its medieval architecture, cobbled streets, and clear-water coves, it’s hard not to fall in love with the city and its surroundings.

My favorite

Cavtat

Cavtat is a small fishing village located across from Dubrovnik. With its magnificent landscapes and crystal-clear sea water, many yachts anchor here. It takes 45 minutes by boat to get there from Dubrovnik, where you’ll have the opportunity to admire small islands on your way. To reach the two ports of the city, you can walk along the coast and admire the sea, accessible through pines and rocks, which makes the scenery beautiful and the swimming exceptional. In the evening, the town is bustling with numerous bars and restaurants along the port, offering a setting worthy of a small village on the French Riviera. A true favourite.

Activities I recommend

Star Star Star

Visit Dubrovnik

With its walls surrounding the city, Dubrovnik has a medieval charm that will transport you through the ages. Among its many narrow streets and stairs, you can stroll and enjoy a magnificent setting. At the port, you can even taste the best ice cream in Dubrovnik, which is worth trying!

Star Star Star

Elaphite Islands Cruise

From Dubrovnik or even the surrounding ports, it's possible to take a cruise to reach the archipelago where the Elaphite Islands are located. During the day, you'll visit three different islands: Šipan, Lopud, and Koločep, where you can relax on fine sandy beaches (the only ones in the region).

Star Star Half Star

Visit the Kotor Region

One advantage of staying in Dubrovnik is its proximity to Montenegro. It's easy to get to the Bay of Kotor to explore Montenegrin architecture and landscapes. On the way, you can even swim in the coves if it tempts you.

My advice

In general, I highly recommend this destination that offers stunning landscapes.

From Luxembourg, I recommend leaving on a Wednesday and returning on a Saturday. Indeed, you will arrive early at your hotel on Wednesday and leave only in the evening on Saturday, optimizing your time on site!

If like me, you go there for your summer vacation, I strongly recommend taking precautions regarding the sun. It’s very strong and sunburns are frequent.

Staying in Cavtat is a good compromise: the airport is less than 5 km away and you’ll also be close to Dubrovnik, which remains easily accessible (boat, taxi, bus… multiple options). Finally, if you wish to take excursions to visit Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina, plan to bring your passport (these countries are not part of the European Union) and the time at Customs can be long.
