When to go to Slovenia?
Slovenia can be visited year-round, but the best season runs from May to September. Each season has its charm: flower-filled spring, sunny summer, colorful autumn, snowy winter in the Alps.
Spring (April–May) – Nature awakens
The waterfalls are at their peak, the vegetation is lush, and there are few tourists. May is often considered the best month to visit Slovenia: nice weather, few people and the lakes are starting to warm up.
Summer (June–August) – Peak season
Pleasant temperatures (25–28°C), swimming possible in the lakes and at the seaside, all activities available. Lake Bled is very busy in July–August — arrive early in the morning to avoid the crowds. The Adriatic coast is ideal for the beach.
Autumn (September–October) – The golden season
Spectacular fall colors in Slovenia’s forests. Mild temperatures, few tourists, cheaper accommodation. September is ideal for hiking and enjoying the coast in complete peace and quiet.

Slovenia is a member of the European Union and the Schengen Area. Luxembourgish and Belgian nationals can travel there without a visa with a valid ID card or passport. No specific formalities are required.
Slovenia has used the euro since 2007. Bank cards are accepted in almost all shops, restaurants and accommodation. Having some cash can be useful at local markets and in the most remote villages.
Slovenia is a small country that is very easy to explore by car: in 2 hours, you can cross a large part of the country. A rental car is the ideal means of transport for exploring lakes, caves and natural parks. Buses connect the main cities. Ljubljana has a good public transport network.
Slovenia is best visited from May to September. Spring (May–June) is magnificent, with lush vegetation and fewer crowds. July and August are the hottest and busiest months — especially at Lake Bled. September offers an excellent compromise: good weather, autumn colours and fewer tourists.
Slovenia is significantly cheaper than neighbouring Austria or Italy, while offering comparable quality of life and accommodation. Restaurants, activities and transport are very affordable. Lake Bled remains the most expensive area in the country.
