The Djemaa el-Fna square in Marrakech is not classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its buildings, but as a “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” for the unique atmosphere created by its storytellers, musicians, and artists.

The official currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). Credit card payment is possible in large hotels, restaurants, and shops, but cash is indispensable in the souks, for taxis, and small businesses. ATMs are widely available in cities.

The inhabitants of Morocco are called Moroccans.

The official languages are Arabic and Amazigh (Berber). French is widely spoken and used in administration, commerce, and tourism, making communication very easy for French-speaking travellers.

In Morocco, plugs are type C and E (the same as in France and Belgium). Therefore, you normally won’t need an adapter. The voltage is 220V.
