The official currency is the Cape Verdean Escudo (CVE). The euro is sometimes accepted in very touristy areas (hotels, some restaurants in Sal or Boa Vista), but it is best to have escudos for everyday expenses. Credit cards are accepted in large hotels and some restaurants on the most touristy islands, but less so in smaller establishments or on less developed islands. It is advisable to withdraw cash from ATMs (available in the main towns) or exchange euros upon arrival.
The inhabitants of Cape Verde are called Cape Verdeans (men) and Cape Verdeans (women).
The official language is Portuguese. However, the language spoken daily by the majority of the population is Cape Verdean Creole (kriolu), which varies slightly from one island to another. French and English are spoken in tourist areas.
In Cape Verde, electrical outlets are type C and F. The standard voltage is 220V-230V and the frequency is 50Hz. French appliances work without an adapter.
