Cape Verde is the birthplace of Cesaria Evora, nicknamed the Barefoot Diva, who popularized morna, a traditional Cape Verdean music style listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2019.
The official currency is the Cape Verdean Escudo (CVE). The euro is sometimes accepted in tourist areas, but it is preferable to have escudos for everyday expenses. Bank cards are accepted in hotels and restaurants on the main islands.
